BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Amtrak officials say this week is their busiest of the year as travelers choose trains over planes and cars for Thanksgiving journeys.
Amtrak is coming off a record year where it surpassed 34 million passenger trips, up 5% over last year and an all-time high.
This Thanksgiving, the majority of people are taking trips close to home, traveling 250 miles or less, according to Amtrak.
With more people in seats, the company says it’s all hands on deck, recruiting non-station staff to help out travelers.
“So, people in different departments putting on neon green or yellow vests to answer questions, help out, give directions, anything that people may need who may not have traveled with us in a long time or might not have ever traveled with us,” said Amtrak’s Jason Abr
