At the end of October, Category 5 Hurricane Melissa devastated Jamaica, leaving homes and businesses destroyed and many families unsure of what to do next.
Watching the disaster unfold from afar, Steinbach resident Neville Hamilton felt compelled to help his home country.
He says his own family was safe, though their property was damaged. After seeing the widespread destruction, he knew he needed to act.
“I started thinking really, really hard about how we can help Jamaica. And so, we planned and we got a container, and we are going to fill that container now with the help of the community to send back to Jamaica to help Jamaicans in their time of need."
The container is approximately 40 feet long and is located at the United Church in Steinbach at 541 Main Street.
