CALDWELL, Idaho — Some unexpected plumbing luck and a quick 911 call helped prevent major damage from a commercial fire in Caldwell on Nov. 26.
Caldwell Fire crews responded to a shop near Dearborn Street after the owner reported smoke filling the room. Dispatchers advised them to call 911 directly, ensuring the closest available units were sent.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke inside the building but no flames. A ceiling-mounted domestic water line had ruptured from the heat and released water directly onto the ignition point. The accidental water flow extinguished the fire before it had a chance to spread, according to Caldwell Fire.
The department said that while the water line was not a sprinkler system, it acted like one. This helped to prevent major damage to
