IDAHO CITY, Idaho — What started as a holiday adventure quickly became perilous as a family of seven searched for a Christmas tree near Pilot Peak on Sunday, Nov. 23.
According to Boise County Search and Rescue, the family was stuck on the snow-covered road at the corner of Summit Flat Road and Forest Service Road 314. Their car's battery had died about 15 miles north of Idaho City, and they were "tired and cold" because of below-freezing temperatures.
The parents had managed to start a small fire for warmth while waiting for rescue crews to arrive. Boise County Search and Rescue was dispatched to the family's location at 5:27 p.m. by the sheriff's office, and the rescue crew was able to jumpstart the car.
