LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A former Border Patrol agent convicted in a double murder will continue serving a life sentence after the 8th District Court of Appeals upheld his conviction this week.

According to court records, Chief Justice Maria Salas Mendoza reviewed five issues raised by the defense, which sought to overturn Ronald Burgos-Aviles’ conviction and request a new trial. Those claims included discharging one of Burgos-Aviles’ defense attorneys, a denied motion to change venue, admitting evidence of Dominic’s leg injury, a denial of a mistrial, and the allowance of expert testimony.

The appeals court found no errors or abuse of discretion on most of the claims and ruled that the one issue it did identify was harmless.
