The Galt Heritage Conservation District plan has been in the works for more than five years, but it still needs more work.

On Tuesday, Cambridge councillors had a long — at times tense — discussion about the latest draft before a unanimous decision to send it back to staff.

Council was told the conservation district now covers 146 properties downtown and includes newly added areas on Water Street North, Park Hill Road East and east of Wellington Street.

Staff said the plan will go through more public consultation before returning to council next year, but councillors already had a long list of concerns and questions.
