OAKLAND, Maine (WABI) - In Oakland, the community continued a decades old Thanksgiving Tradition.

Messalonskee High School hosted the 36th annual Thanksgiving Dinner.

Mike Marston founded the meal alongside the late Edward “Bud” King back in 1990.

The two wanted to offer members of the community a warm meal where everyone was included.

And as Marston noted, this meal was made possible with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

“We have volunteers that are in their high 70s and we have volunteers in their teens. And you saw them as some, that are 10, 11 years old helping out. It’s just a family affair. Small town America, just a neighbor helping neighbor,” Marston said.

The meal was also given a hand by the local Girl Scout troop baked nearly 300 pies.
