A cat has been found dead on on a beach in Edinburgh after being burned. The gruesome discovery was made at around 7am yesterday by a member of the public who works for the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. ‌

The cat's body was found in the remains of a fire on Portobello Beach in the southeast of the capital. The Scottish SPCA are investigating the discover and said it was currently unclear if the cat was dead or alive when it was burned. ‌

Inspectors from the animal charity were called following the discovery and described the cat as "completely burned" and "unrecognisable". ‌

They are attempting to find a microchip to help identify the animal and trace its owner if possible. Unlike for dogs, microchipping cats is not currently a legal requirement.
