ONAWA, Iowa (WOWT) - “One of the things I’ve always tried to have is an attitude of gratitude.”
As pastor at Hope Evangelical Free Church in Onawa, Iowa, Stan Johnson’s calling in life is to serve. He leads a relatively small but close congregation of around 150.
At age 62, he hadn’t experienced any serious health concerns. But on October 11th, that quickly changed.
“I felt things were heavy I wasn’t walking very well, I’d lost my balance and equilibrium and started to get a headache in my eye,” says Stan.
He had suffered a stroke. By Monday the 13th, Stan could lift his arms and walk with assistance. By Tuesday, he was using a walker and by Wednesday his hand was no longer functioning and he was losing all strength in his arm and leg. His speech was becoming tangled.
