BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

The Jimmie Hale Mission in Birmingham served over 1,200 meals on Thanksgiving, including more than 300 dinners delivered by volunteers during Meals on Wheels to those unable to leave their homes.

Nearly 40 volunteers arrived early to package the meals, while another 100 volunteers spent their morning delivering them throughout the community.

James Poe, executive director of the Mission's Shepura Men's Center said many volunteers spend their Thanksgiving giving back every year.

"What I hear year in and year out is people come back telling just wonderful stories of what it was like to go out and do that on Thanksgiving morning," Poe said. "People have made that part of their Thanksgiving tradition now to come and deliver meals at the Jimmie Hale Mission."
