A Birmingham woman who starved a puppy for three months has been sentenced.

Lauren Hopkins failed to feed her five month old female Staffie called Stella who she kept in a rubbish strewn flat.

Birmingham Magistrates Court heard how RSPCA officers visited Hopkins’ then rented flat in High Road, Tottenham, North London, to carry out a welfare check on a dog, back in December 2023.

There was no reply so they left messages for Hopkins to get in touch and sealed the door with tape.

Multiple phone calls to Hopkins were unanswered, leading to concerns about her wellbeing, as well as the welfare of her dog.

She eventually responded, confirming there was a dog at the property.
