The massive arts center being built by VCU near the intersection of Broad and Belvidere is getting closer to completion.

The university’s $253 million CoStar Center for Arts and Innovation is well underway, with plans to complete the facility’s frame and a topping-out event to place the final structural beam at the end of December.

The ceremonial beam placement will mark a major milestone in the construction of what will be among the largest academic facilities on VCU’s campus: the future home for the university’s arts program.

In addition to classrooms, the 213,000-square-foot building is planned to feature rehearsal spaces, an auditorium, sound studio, prop shop and costume lab. It will also be home to facilities for students of other disciplines.
