Just an hour outside of Newcastle , you can find yourself tucked away in this charming village, all built out of historic stone.

Hidden beneath a "woodland cloak in a fairytale setting,", as described by Visit Northumberland, is the picture-perfect village of Blanchland. Sitting on the edge of County Durham , in Northumberland , the area is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the Northeast.

The village itself is built from the stones of the 1165 Blanchland Abbey, and its history hums through the walls of its buildings. They sit along the cobbled streets, offering a range of traditional cafes, bakeries and shops, with no signs of modernity.
