A former leader of UKIP in Scotland has denied he took payments from Russia in exchange for making pro-Putin statements in the European Parliament. ‌

David Coburn , who served as an MEP for five years, is reportedly named in a series of messages between an alleged ally of the Russian security forces and disgraced former Reform UK politician Nathan Gill. ‌

The messages were released following the conviction of Gill, Reform UK's former leader in Wales , who was last week jailed for 10-and-a-half years after taking bribes for giving pro-Russia interviews and speeches. ‌

Corbun, who was privately educated in Glasgow, served as a UKIP MEPs at the same time as Gill from 2014-2019, under the leadership of Nigel Farage.
