(The Hill) -- The 2025 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade got underway in New York City Thursday morning as Americans prepare for a busy holiday season.
Last year's parade was partially interrupted by pro-Palestinian protestors demonstrating against the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. This year? Consumer boycotts are expected over Trump administration policies — including increased prices, sweeping tariffs and rollbacks of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs — as peak shopping season kicks off.
Despite rising inflation and economic uncertainty from President Trump's import taxes, the National Retail Federation estimated that shoppers will collectively spend between $1.01 trillion and $1.02 trillion over the next two months — an increase up to 4.2 percent compared with last year.
