Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that injured a man in the city’s West Ward on Thursday evening.
Just before 8 p.m., a ShotSpotter notification alerted officers to gunfire in the 80s block of North Munn Avenue.
When police arrived, they searched the area and located several shell casings, prompting them to secure the scene.
During a continued search, officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.
He was transported to University Hospital and is expected to survive.
A thorough sweep of the area indicated no additional victims.
Newark Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting and working to determine a possible motive.
No suspects have been identified, and the incident remains under active investigation.
