Police are investigating a Thursday morning incident in Newark after a woman was bitten by a dog on the 200 block of S. 9th Street.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, officers were called to the scene around 9:10 a.m., where an armed concerned citizen reportedly fired a handgun to stop the dog’s attack.
The woman was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The dog did not survive.
Officials said the citizen who fired the shot remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
The incident is under active investigation.
