What might be the best way to raise funds to cover the cost of replacing the Jonathan Bourne Public Library? Members of the library’s board of trustees have floated the idea of establishing a foundation for the express purpose of raising money for the aged building’s replacement. The town counsel’s office and Town Administrator Marlene V. McCollem have questioned its necessity.

The subject was raised during the trustees’ meeting on November 20. In April, it was announced that the estimated cost of building a new library on the existing site on Sandwich Road would be somewhere in the $25 million to $32 million range.
