For the past five years I have been a volunteer with the town’s shellfish propagation program. I get to work directly with town staff from Marine Environmental Services (MES) and the scores of other volunteers who help raise oysters, clams and scallops. I am writing to suggest that other residents join this exciting program.

We get to work outside in some of the most scenic bays and estuaries in our region. At each volunteer event, staff educate us on the task for the day and how it fits into the larger plan for growing shellfish and then spreading the adults to the various shellfishing areas throughout Falmouth’s waterways. We know our role in the growing cycle of these animals.
