This year has witnessed high street banks shutting branches across UK towns, with the widespread closures set to persist into 2026. This follows a transformation in consumer habits that has seen millions more Britons opting to bank digitally and through mobile applications instead of visiting their neighbourhood branches.
Lloyds Bank has also participated in the closure wave sweeping the UK , with the well-known lender shutting 15 branches this month alone. The 61 branches due to close this year form part of parent firm Lloyds Banking Group, which also operates Halifax and Bank of Scotland, and intends to shrink its complete network by almost 300 by March 2026.
