Residents in the North East have been issued with a warning over a telephone scam where fraudsters are pretending to be police officers. Durham Constabulary is urging people to 'be aware' of the scam which is seeing callers making demands.

During the call, fraudsters posing as officers are telling people to go to the supermarket to purchase high value gift cards. They are then requesting them to send a picture of the card's serial number.
