MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - Two people had to cut out of their vehicle following a serious crash on the interstate in Murfreesboro on Thanksgiving night.

The Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department sent crews to I-24 East near the I-840 interchange for a crash involving two vehicles on Thursday night. Firefighters and emergency personnel arrived to find one vehicle overturned and two people trapped inside.

Photos from the scene showed a red overturned vehicle in the treeline.

Rescue unit 11 successfully extricated the trapped people from the vehicle, according to the report. They were both transported by Rutherford County EMS to the hospital, where one remained in critical condition, according to Murfreesboro Fire.

The eastbound lanes of I-24 were shut down during rescue efforts.
