Crews are making steady progress on repairs to the major watermain break that occured in Pembroke’s water system late last week, with officials urging residents to continue cutting back on water use until the system is fully restored.

Tomlinson, the specialized contractor brought in to tackle the complex job, began site preparation on Wednesday before moving into full excavation of the large-diameter trunk watermain Thursday morning. The break affected one of the system’s key supply lines, prompting widespread calls for conservation and temporary accommodations for high-priority users like Miramichi Lodge.
