EAST BOSTON, Mass. —
Thousands of planes from the Airbus A320 family require immediate safety work that could contribute to post-Thanksgiving delays.
France-based Airbus announced Friday that numerous aircraft from the model family require safety or hardware adjustments.
"Analysis of a recent event involving an A320 Family aircraft has revealed that intense solar radiation may corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls," the statement said.
American Airlines confirmed it was notified about the issue on Friday morning. A spokesperson said American has approximately 480 A320 family planes, and 340 of those require a software update.
