DES MOINES, Iowa — What started as every other Thanksgiving shift at IHOP for Ashley Cruz turned out to be one she'll remember forever.

Mirza Kudic, the man behind the popular "Welcome to Des Moines" Facebook page, sat in her section Thursday morning. When Cruz placed his receipt down, he took out a stack of cash most servers don't see from just one table: $2,400. Kudic sent Cruz with $400 for the cooks in the back and $2,000 for herself.

"I was just in shock," Cruz said. "I went to the back and I was crying. It's very generous."

Shortly after handing her the money, Kudic explained it wasn't just from his pocket, but from several others. With over 80,000 followers on his Facebook page, he asked the community to pitch in and help a server this holiday season.
