BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Southern University System President Dennis Shields confirmed his time in the position is ending. He discussed the leadership change during a board of supervisors meeting in New Orleans on Friday, Nov. 28.

Shields says he became aware of the board’s plan to go in a different direction about five weeks ago.

“I serve at the pleasure of the board. It was indicated to me the board wanted to go in a different direction, and I accept that,” he said. “It’s not the way I would have done it, but it’s the prerogative of this board.”

News of his departure from the role began circulating in the public days ago after the meeting’s agenda was released with a related line item on it.
