Staffing gaps, enhanced cybersecurity and legislative requirements have pushed the proposed Kingston Police 2026 budget just shy of six-per-cent higher than 2025, an increase that the board approved, but not without some discussion at the Kingston Police Services Board meeting on Nov. 27.

During the meeting, the board was presented with a proposed operating budget of $57.2 million, which reflects a 5.97-per-cent increase, and a capital budget request of $2.3 million for 2026.

The proposed capital budget includes funding for essential equipment such as body armour and firearms, and critical furniture for workspaces.
