Four days after a flight instructor and her student crashed into Lake Pontchartrain, local law enforcement agencies identified what they believe is debris belonging to the missing aircraft, New Orleans police said Friday afternoon.
NOPD, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office are still "actively engaged" in the Lake Pontchartrain search, public information officer Reese Harper said.
"At this stage, our focus remains on locating and recovering all evidence connected to the missing aircraft," Harper said in an emailed statement. "That includes doing everything we can, within current weather and safety limitations, to bring clarity and closure to the families involved."
