DOWNEY — The St. Pius X-St. Matthias football team is trying to do something that has never been done before in school history. The Warriors are seeking to win consecutive CIF-SS titles.
St. Pius (7-6) will host Ventura (11-2) in the Division 6 final Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Warriors dominated Alta Loma 35-6 in the first round, pulled off a 31-28 come-from-behind victory over Upland in the quarterfinals and ran past Roosevelt 39-6 in the semifinals to reach the Division 6 title game.
“We just have to execute the assignment,” St. Pius X-St. Matthias coach Devah Thomas said.
St. Pius is led by senior quarterback Jassi Williams, who was named the All-CIF Division 8 Offensive Player of the Year last season.
“Once we got the at-large (playoff berth), we knew it could be the same story as it
