TOWN OF GOUVERNEUR, New York (WWNY) - The American Red Cross is assisting three people after a fire in Gouverneur.

According to the Gouverneur Fire Department, crews responded to a fire on Cream of the Valley Road in the Town of Gouverneur around 8:39 a.m. Friday.

Officials say when crews arrived, smoke was showing. They were able to get to work pulling down the ceiling as the fire was located above the ceiling.

Crews removed personal belongings from the room to limit property damage.

The fire was contained to the living room ceiling and attic. Once the fire was under control, crews cleared all the debris from the home for the homeowner.

The American Red Cross is providing financial assistance for necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing to two adults and a 15-year-old.
