OTTAWA — The Real Estate Council of Ontario’s (RECO) handing of alleged fraud by a now-defunct Mississauga brokerage has prompted the province to step in.
On Friday, Ontario’s Public and Business Service Delivery Minister Stephen Crawford announced he appointed an administrator to take over control of RECO, a direct consequence of how the regulator handled the iPro Realty scandal.
“As noted in my Nov. 13 2025 letter, the Dentons final audit report identifies significant issues with RECO’s practices, process and procedures and raises serious concerns about RECO’s organizational culture,” Crawford wrote in a letter to RECO board chair Katie Steinfeld and CEO Brenda Buchanan.
