LAPD Says Officers Opened Fire When a Suspect Refused to Drop a Sharp Object
Gunfire erupted during a police response in Koreatown on Friday morning, leaving a man in critical condition after officers opened fire on a suspect allegedly armed with a sharp object, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers from the Olympic Division were dispatched to the 800 block of South Vermont Avenue shortly after 7:15 a.m. following reports that a man was cutting himself while holding a sharp object. When officers arrived, they located the suspect and repeatedly ordered him to drop what he was carrying, police said.
LAPD officials reported that the man refused to comply. The encounter escalated, and officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect.
