A Philadelphia police officer was seriously hurt when a pit bull attacked her during a domestic disturbance call in Olney, authorities announced on Sunday, Nov. 30.
The attack happened on the 5200 block of Arbor Street at around 7:46 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, as officers were speaking with a family member outside the home, according to Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace.
“A large pit bull came out from inside the house and attacked the officer, biting her in the upper arm,” Pace said in the release.
The officer suffered a “significant injury to the arm” but was listed in stable condition, Pace said. He added that the officer may have been more seriously hurt if she had not been wearing heavy clothing due to the cold.
The pit bull was shot and killed by the officer’s partner after it latched onto her arm, police said.
No additional details about the domestic disturbance were released.
