A snowmobiler who got stuck and had to find shelter from the cold in an unoccupied cabin was rescued on Thanksgiving Day.
The 55-year-old man was snowmobiling when he got stuck in a swamp about five miles northwest of Meadowlands, which is located in a remote area of St. Louis County, about 40 miles from Duluth.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office learned about the situation around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, having been informed that the man "found refuge in a remote cabin where he spent the night," and that he "contacted a friend indicating that he planned on walking to the road in the morning."
The man's friend called 911 when the 55-year-old never showed up at the road within an expected timeframe, prompting the search and rescue operation.
