SEATTLE - The No. 6 Oregon Ducks’ offense sputtered several times after driving well past midfield during Saturday’s 26-14 win at Husky Stadium.
UO coach Dan Lanning, known for his penchant for gambling on fourth down chose to run his field goal kicking unit onto the field four times.
Kicker Atticus Sappington rewarded Lanning for his confidence in him.
The senior made a career-best four field goals on four attempts, including a career-long 51-yarder in the third quarter that put the Ducks up 19-7.
“We’ve seen him hit them in practice,” Lanning said. “That was right on the edge of where we felt comfortable giving it a shot. Any time you can walk away with points, I know that sounds funny coming from me, that’s a positive.”
