Born in South Africa, Dr. Jenkins earned his veterinary degree before coming to the U.S. for his Ph.D. He joined LSU in 1988 as Dean of the Veterinary School and went on to serve as Provost, Chancellor, and President of the LSU System. School officials said even after retiring, he returned to help during transitional periods, showing his lifelong commitment to LSU.
