Travis Turner, a high school football coach in Virginia, has been missing since November 20. He is wanted on multiple charges related to child sexual abuse material. According to his family, Turner was last seen walking into a wooded area near his home in Appalachia, armed with a firearm.
A statement from the family’s attorney, Adrian Collins, revealed that the last contact they had with Turner was on the day he disappeared. "He is believed to have entered a heavily wooded and mountainous area," Collins said. At that time, no arrest warrants had been issued for Turner. When he did not return home that evening, his wife reported him missing to law enforcement. However, she was informed that a missing-person report could not be filed until 24 hours had passed. The following day, she officially reported him missing to the Virginia State Police.
Virginia State Police were already investigating Turner when they learned he was missing. They later issued a total of 10 warrants for him, including five counts of possession of child pornography and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor. Turner, 46, is a physical education teacher and the head football coach at Union High School in Wise County.
Despite the ongoing investigation, the Union Bears football team has continued to perform well, advancing to the Virginia regional final with a perfect 12-0 record. Assistant coach Jay Edward is currently leading the team in Turner's absence.
Virginia State Police have been actively searching for Turner since his disappearance. They have utilized search and rescue teams, drones, and K9 units in their efforts. "VSP's main priority is locating Turner safely; he is now considered a fugitive," the police stated.
The family has also been searching for Turner, although their efforts have been hampered by weather conditions and respect for the official search operations. "It is the family’s prayer that Travis is safe and will have the opportunity to defend himself in a court of law," Collins added.
Turner’s wife, Leslie, expressed her confusion and concern regarding the situation. "None of that is true. He’s a good dad and a good husband and we want him home. That’s it," she said, referring to the allegations against him. She also stated, "I don’t know anything. I don’t know anything. I’m sorry."
As the search continues, the community remains focused on both the investigation and the football team's upcoming games, hoping for a resolution to this troubling situation.
