Proscribed terrorist group: Twenty-five people were arrested in Birmingham city centre during a protest organised by Defend Our Juries in Chamberlain Square. The arrests occurred because a number of demonstrators carried placards expressing support for Palestine Action , which was designated as a proscribed terrorist group by the Government in July this year.

Legal grounds for arrests: Those arrested were taken into custody under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000 . This section makes it an offence to be a member of or express support for a proscribed organisation.

Background to the ban: Palestine Action was banned following a security breach incident at RAF Brize Norton and an act of vandalism on a plane. Ministers justified the ban by stating that a series of inciden
