Police have issued a warning to shoppers buying fake toys, makeup and electronics as families prepare for Christmas .

While people may believe they're grabbing a bargain with counterfeit products, they can pose a serious health risk to children - including explosions, choking, fires and exposure to toxic chemicals.

Often, the products do not comply with manufacturing standards, making them prone to overheating and catching fire. But they can also contain the toxic metal, with one of the most common of those being lead.

Wolverhampton City Police warned of the dangers of lead exposure to children as they shared key Crimestoppers advice this weekend, Sunday, November 30.
