Residents fear their town is at a crossroads, with upcoming changes being "enough to send everyone running to Cheshire Oaks." A new report by One West Kirby suggests the Merseyside town risks losing its unique charm.

The report from the Wirral community organisation said its high street was becoming less diverse with "a marked shift away from traditional retail towards services such as nail bars, barbers, and health providers." The number of vacant units has doubled between 2022 and 2025, and more businesses close than reopen.

Iona Horsburgh, who wrote the report for One West Kirby, said there was "a growing sense that West Kirby is being left behind" but believes that with the right steps, the town "can once again thrive." This is the second report done by the organis
