After reports surfaced that the Florida Gators will be hiring Tulane's Jon Sumrall as their next head football coach, it seems they're pairing him with an experienced NFL executive.

According to On3's Pete Nakos, Florida is hiring Philadelphia Eagles personnel executive Dave Caldwell as general manager. Caldwell, who has won Super Bowls as part of the Indianapolis Colts and Eagles' front offices, was previously the general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2013-20.

Caldwell interviewed for a GM-type role last season, but the Gators instead hired former NFL executive Nick Polk to a front office role. Jacob LaFrance has also served as general manager under former coach Billy Napier, and it's not currently clear whether Polk or LaFrance will remain with the program.

During his time as the Jaguars' general manager, Caldwell was just 37-86. However, he has been a part of the highly touted Philadelphia Eagles front office since 2021, after he was fired in Jacksonville.

Florida missed out on the Lane Kiffin sweepstakes, but it now has its guy in Sumrall. With a general manager hire now made, it's time for a new era in Gainesville.
