Taylor Sheridan came up with a great idea for Landman season 2 : Add Sam Elliott . From his very first scene in the Texas oil drama, it was clear that the 81-year-old was a perfect fit to play Tommy Norris’s ( Billy Bob Thornton ) father. He’s just as cranky, bitter, and full of wisecracks as his fictional son. If Elliott was in every scene, I wouldn’t have anything to complain about. Instead, he doesn’t show up in episode 3 at all.
This week, Landman is all about reestablishing Andy Garcia’s villain. I don’t know how necessary his character is in this series. Sheridan certainly loves using the Mexican cartel as an antagonist—he stuck them in Lioness season 2 and the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off, Y: Marshals —but it’s tough to figure out what purpose Garcia’s
