Montreal firefighters were called to two fires in residential buildings on Sunday morning. There were no injuries.

The first, in a three-storey building with 16 units on Place Basile-Patenaude in the borough of Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie, was called in at 8:15 a.m., said Montreal fire chief Patrick Fournel. There were 50 firefighters on the premises and it took an hour to extinguish the single-alarm fire, he said.

One lane on Dandurand St. was blocked to traffic between Iberville St. and 1st Ave., with Montreal police helping to redirect traffic. A security perimeter around the building has been lifted and the street has since reopened.

Fire department inspectors will investigate to determine the cause of the fire, which started on the building’s first floor, Fournel said.
