LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) -With the season’s first big snow rolling through, shelter and warmth just became all the more important.
Maybe no organization in Lincoln knows that importance more than the People’s City Mission.
“While we can house 80% of the cities homeless,” Pastor Tom Barber, CEO of the People’s City Mission, said. “We house 90% or more in the winter when it gets really cold. We’re really going to need some help this year”
Lincoln’s only homeless shelter was built to house 250 people, but the shelter doesn’t turn anyone away. On Saturday night, 418 people stayed inside, putting the mission more than 100 bodies over capacity.
“Right now we’ve got around 120, 130 women, kids and men on the floor in addition to all of our beds being filled,” Barber said. “We’re looking for ways
