New York Islanders veteran forward Kyle Palmieri has a torn ACL and will be out six-to-eight months, the team announced Saturday.
Palmieri was injured while vying for a loose puck with Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale during the second period of New York's 4-3 shootout loss on Friday. Although injured, Palmieri was able to strip the puck away from Philadelphia defenseman Emil Andrae and feed Jonathan Drouin, who ultimately set up Emil Heineman for a goal.
Palmieri was credited with an assist on the play.
Palmieri, 34, has 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 25 games while playing in the first season of a two-year, $9.5 million contract.
He recorded 48 points (24 goals, 24 assists) while playing in all 82 games last season.
