OMAHA, Neb. —

Hundreds of Omaha residents braved the cold to support local businesses and celebrate the start of the holiday season, with festivities kicking off Sunday afternoon after a Saturday snowstorm delayed the original plans.

The city offered free Ollie the Trolley rides along the soon-to-be streetcar route. It made 10 stops along the way, allowing people to get on and off as needed, with the goal of helping residents get from one local business to the next.

"We were supposed to be doing it on Small Business Saturday, but we'll make it Small Business Sunday," Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. said.

Ewing said he knows small businesses have been hurt by the ongoing streetcar construction, and he said he wants to continue to find intentional ways to help, like planning Sunday's event.
