The WNBA has avoided a lockout for another few weeks.

With the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement set to expire at 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday night, the players’ association and the league have agreed to extend the current CBA through Jan. 9, 2026, ESPN’s Alexa Philippou reported.

According to Philippou, either party has the option to terminate the extension with 48 hours’ advance notice.

“The WNBA and WNBPA are continuing to work toward a new agreement,” the league said in a statement to ESPN.

Just before the agreement was set to expire, the players’ association proposed a six-week extension to the league in order to avoid a lockout and continue to negotiate a new agreement.
