An elderly woman has died in Chiradzulu District after being suffocated by smoke while burning bushes in her garden.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in the district, Lloyd Chalemera, confirmed that the woman, Agness Chalapata, 76, passed away while attempting to put out a fire that had spread to a neighboring garden.
Relatives and well-wishers rushed Agness to Mbulumbuzi Hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.
The deceased was from Nsanja Village, a part of the Mpama Chiefdom in Chiradzulu District.
