Yumna Dagher said her high school English teacher inspired her.

She worked on a farm while studying at the University of Michigan.

University of Michigan graduate Yumna Dagher has been named a 2026 Rhodes Scholar who will attend the University of Oxford in England next fall.

Dagher, 23, grew up in Dearborn and graduated in May from U-M with a double major of English and the environment. She's one of 32 Americans to win the scholarship and the 33rd winner from U-M.

The Rhodes Scholarship is considered one of the most competitive and prestigious international scholarships. Former President Bill Clinton is among the Americans who have received it. The 32 American winners were chosen from 965 applicants nationwide.
