SUFFOLK, Va. — Northbound lanes of Interstate 664 at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel have reopened, hours after being shut down on Monday morning.

According to VDOT, northbound lanes were shut down due to a disabled vehicle. Vehicles were rerouted off I-664 at College Drive (exit 8B) in Suffolk, leading to traffic backups of approximately 2.5 miles.

Southbound I-664 is also seeing backups due to an earlier tunnel stoppage on the peninsula. It's not immediately clear what caused the stoppage, but southbound traffic was again moving slowly as of 11:45 a.m.

Shortly before 1 p.m., northbound traffic began moving again, but drivers can expect residual delays in the area.
